Hope Adoption Services is closing

Ministry closes after 25 years

By Focus on the Family Canada staff

We were greatly saddened to learn of the decision that the Hope Pregnancy and Adoption Services Society is closing its doors, a decision announced on January 5, 2012.

Hope has been in operation for more than 25 years, serving the community by counselling birth parents and helping families in their quest to adopt, both domestically and internationally. They were also British Columbia’s only Christian adoption agency. Ann and Lorne Welwood, the founders of the agency, have given much of their lives – both personally and professionally –  to this ministry, and have been recognized and honoured by their peers for their work in adoption services. We want to thank them publically for their enormous contribution to the Christian community in B.C. through their visionary work in this field.

As fewer women choose to place children for adoption locally, and as international adoptions begin to take longer and longer to complete because countries are becoming more reluctant to release their children to international adoptions, adoption agencies have found it more challenging to make ends meet.

We understand that Hope is assisting current family clients in a transition to another agency, or completing their in-process adoption if the adoption is close to being finished. We are confident that they will bring closure to their services to the best of their ability.
